TreeThe Bethlehem United Methodist Church Endowment Fund

The Endowment Fund of Bethlehem United Methodist Church (BUMC), Moneta, Virginia, was established in 1986 by the Administrative Board of BUMC.

This fund was created for the purpose of providing members and friends the opportunity to make charitable gifts to Bethlehem United Methodist Church that will become a permanent endowment of financial support and/or a living memorial.   All gifts made to the BUMC endowment fund either through current gifts of cash, securities or property, or through bequests, insurance, IRA’s, or life income vehicles are invested through the Virginia United Methodist Foundation in conformity with federal and state laws and the requirements of the United Methodist Book of Discipline.

BUMC encourages gifts to the endowment fund and promotes opportunities for church members and constituents to make provisions for planned gifts to the local church (and/or institutions, agencies, and causes of The United Methodist Church) by means of wills, charitable gift annuities, charitable trusts, life insurance, memorials, and various types of assets.

Gifts to the Bethlehem United Methodist Church Endowment Fund are classified as “designated” and accepted for a specific endowment purpose, if indicated by the donor, or accepted as “undesignated” and assigned by the Endowment Committee to be available for use in any one of the following areas:

  1. Mission Fund (for missions in and/or beyond the local church and community)
  2. Capital Improvements/Maintenance Fund (not a part of the annual budget)

                        iii.         Scholarship Fund

  1. Music and worship or Church Library or other specific ministries
  2. Other areas of ministry as requested by the donor or established by the Foundation Committee.

The endowment fund over the last five years has been used for scholarships to graduating high school seniors with BUMC affiliation and or membership who plans to pursue further education whether in college or university, technical or trade school; and other ministry areas, such as the BUMC bus and solar project.  Over the years, most of our funds have been supporting  the scholarship program.
