Missions

The Mission of Bethlehem United Methodist Church is to embrace Jesus’ mandate

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you.

Matthew 28:19-20

Early Response Teams

In addition to prayers and financial support, Bethlehem responds to disasters via its specially trained Emergency Response Teams, and Rebuild Teams. The ERT teams provide a caring Christian presence after a disaster and take steps to prevent further damage to homes impacted by the disaster.

The Rebuild Teams help clear, repair and rebuild homes, helping families to recover spiritually and physically. Teams are formed for specific trips each year and respond where the need appears greatest. Frequently our youth join the adults on mission trips where they learn home repair skills as well as caring for others. Skilled as well as unskilled-but-willing workers are invited to join our rebuild teams.

Good Samaritans

The disaster rebuild teams discovered there were unmet needs in our local area. They offer assistance to families in need of structural and other home repair assistance. Their labor is donated; payment for materials is appreciated but not required.

Wheelchair ramps are commonly requested. This photo depicts a few of the stages toward completion.

United Methodist Men

United Methodist Men

The third Tuesday every month, the men meet at 6 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall for discussion of upcoming events, a devotional time, a meal and a speaker. The men of the church lead our mission trips and Disaster Response Teams, providing help throughout the country. They have also participated in international trips to our sister church in Szeged, Hungary and the Mi Refugio mission in Guatemala. Locally they also coordinate the Good Samaritan program, helping local individuals with small home repair jobs. And the UMM are well known for their peanuts. See the A Nutty Idea page for more info.
