BUMC Mission Update

 Hurricane Relief 2024

Hurricane Helene raced through Georgia, Tennessee and North and South Carolina with a vengeance.  Hurricane Milton flooded many parts of Florida and the United Methodist church responds helping with clean-up. Our church formed an assembly line and contributed 100 flood/clean-up buckets to the 40 already sent to the conference for distribution.

Throughout the year, we support the following organizations with our time, talents and financial gifts:

Habitat for Humanity
Bethlehem UMC Preschool Outdoor Learning Center
Food for Kids
Moneta Rescue Squad
SML Good Neighbors
Henry Fork Service Center
Lake Christian Ministries
Glorious Gifts
Huddleston Rescue Squad
Good Samaritans
United Methodist Center one Relief (UMCOR)

2023 Organizations:

In April we highlighted the Moneta and Huddleston Rescue Squads with a speaker from the Moneta Rescue Squad 8. Biggest need: volunteers to take the EMT course (paid for by the Rescue Squad) and join the squad, donations.

In May we highlighted UMCOR by committing to 50 hygiene kits to be delivered to the Annual Conference in June. Our goal was surpassed with 76 kits donated and $450 (approximately 37 kits).

In June we are highlighting the Henry Fork Service Center, a non-profit mission of the United Methodist Church. Henry Fork provides an afterschool program for grades Pre-K through 8th grade and a summer program for ages 2 to 14. Did you know that they provide summer students with 8 ounces of milk for both breakfast and lunch? That is a lot of milk and disposable cups! Our goal is to help by providing much needed disposable cup supplies for their summer program. Please join us by donating 8-9 ounce disposable cups. A drop-off bin is located in the BUMC Welcome Center.

The other organizations we will highlight this year include: Habitat for Humanity, Lake Christian Ministries, Bedford Ride, Food for Kids, CASA Child Advocacy and Glorious Gifts organizations.
